ABYSSINIA IRON AND STEEL INVESTS INTO TRANSFORMATIVE SOLAR PROJECT

An infusion of $2 million into a ground-mounted solar facility is poised to propel the growth of a low-carbon economy and foster a greener future for Kenya’s manufacturing sector.

Abyssinia Iron and Steel has inked a 25-year power purchase agreement with Empower New Energy, a Norwegian solar power financier.

Spenomatic Group, a leading renewable engineering, procurement, and construction company in East Africa, will construct and operate the 2.5 MWp solar project. This marks Empower New Energy’s inaugural investment in Kenya and signifies Abyssinia’s commitment to achieving 100% renewable energy reliance.

The solar project is expected to generate 4.8 GWh of clean electricity annually, preventing approximately 2,500 metric tonnes of carbon emissions.

Ground-mounted solar options offer advantages like easy maintenance access, efficient energy production through increased airflow, and a significant step toward clean energy adoption in the industrial sector.
